Kostos

About

The village of Kostos is located between the hills of Paros, at an altitude of 160 meters and only 7km away, from Parikia. It benefits from the characteristic Cycladic architecture and has two beautiful churches. It is decorated with a beautiful olive grove and a lot of greenery, overlooking the bay of Molos. Kostos is the birthplace of Athanasios Parios, whose writing was remarkable, and he was also a great teacher in many regions of Greece during the critical moments of the preparation of the Revolution. A visit to the house gives the visitor a sample of his life and work.

Sights

There are several churches in Kostos that are well worth seeing. One of them is the church of Saint Panteleimon, who is characterized as the protector of the village and it is next to a small wood. Next is Agia Marina, a beautiful church of Kostos with a brown bell tower next to St. Panteleimon and the last is the Church of the Resurrection.

Events

During the summer, three great festivals, the first in memory of Athanasios Parios (24 June), the second of St. Marina (17 July) and the last of St. Panteleimonas, the protector of the village (July 27), draw large crowds to Kostos. It is also worth a walk in the alleys of the village, with a stop at the traditional café of the square for a glass of souma, the traditional drink of Paros, accompanied by local delicacies.
